The Salal Foundation seeks to deepen the impact of our philanthropy by:
- Building strong relationships with change makers;
- Advancing the public’s understanding of complex issues, particularly about the extraction, transport, storage and use of toxic substances;
- Addressing root causes;
- Learning and adapting as an organization;
- Working with strategic intent; and
- Leveraging our impact.
The Salal Foundation is a volunteer-led organization; we have no full-time staff or dedicated program officers. Although we do accept unsolicited requests for funding through our online submission portal, we rarely fund them.
Most of our resources are devoted to funding our key priorities – established annually by our Board – with organizations and individuals we have identified as leaders in their fields. We believe in providing long-term support to our partners although we prefer partners that have diverse funding sources to promote organizational sustainability.
If you have submitted an online application, you will receive an email confirming receipt. Please do not telephone, email or contact us to discuss your request. Please reply on the online form process.
If the Board decides to pursue a relationship with your organization we will contact you. In addition to seeking additional details about the proposed project we may also seek additional information to gain a comprehensive understanding of your organisation’s broader goals, priorities, culture and finances. This involves a thorough due diligence and selection process, including potentially site visits.Funding decisions are made by the Board. These decisions are made on a quarterly basis throughout the calendar year.This process does not have a set time frame. It can take from two months to more than a year from the submission of a online proposal to final approval. The formal application process begins only when an organisation is invited to submit an application.
Follow these steps:
Step 1
Review the Salal Foundation’s purposes, priorities, limitations, and FAQ.
Step 2
If you think your organization and project are eligible, submit a proposal on the online submission portal. Review our Funding Considerations in preparing your proposal.
Please note that this submission is not part of the Salal Foundation’s formal grant process, which begins only after a formal application is invited.
Step 3
If Salal’s Board decides to follow up on your request, someone from the organization will contact you to invite a proposal.
Unfortunately, due to the volume of requests that we receive, other than a confirmation email we will not respond if your proposal is not accepted.
